Beat those Winter Blues with our 3-day walking break based at Ravenstonedale where the magnificent Howgill Fells meet the quiet Westmorland Dales in the western Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Spend three days with Mark Reid walking through stunning countryside and hills – blow away the cobwebs, refresh and revitalise your mind, body & soul!

ITINERARY
Friday
Meet at 1pm: welcome briefing
1:30pm – 4:30pm: guided afternoon walk through the Westmorland Dales of Smardale, taking in Smardale Bridge, Smardalegill Viaduct and Smardale Fell (6 – 8 miles)
Evening: meal at the Black Swan, Ravenstonedale
Saturday
9:30am – 4:30pm: guided walk in the Howgill Fells, taking in the hills, fells and dales around Ravenstondale, including Knoutberry, Green Bell, Grere Fell and Knott with amazing views and landscapes (choice of moderate or adventurous routes 8 or 12 miles)
Evening: meal at the Black Swan, Ravenstonedale and a Pub Quiz
Sunday
10am – 3pm: guided walk in the Westmorland Dales, taking in Nettle Hill, Brownber, St Helen’s Well and Newbiggin-on-Lune (choice of moderate or adventurous routes 6 or 8 miles)
3pm: farewell drink at the Black Swan, Ravenstonedale

RAVENSTONEDALE – OUR BASE FOR THE WEEKEND
This walking break will be based from the beautiful village of Ravenstonedale in the quiet and beautiful western Yorkshire Dales National Park where the Howgill Fells meet the Westmorland Dales. This really is a beautiful part of the country, with magnificent hills and valleys all around. Ravenstonedale is a lovely village of stone-built houses, ancient church with monastic ruins, a stream running through and red squirrels amongst the trees, not to mention two great pubs!
We’ll explore beautiful riverside paths, deep valleys and wind-swept fells where wild ponies roam, prehistoric remains, lovely villages, magnificent views and cosy pubs.
Accommodation ranges from self catering to B&Bs and two pubs. We’ll send you a detailed list of accommodation when you make a booking with us.
This walking weekend will be based at the Black Swan Hotel at Ravenstonedale an award-winning pub in the heart of the village, with cosy corners, log fires and great food.
