BAKEWELL – OUR BASE FOR THE WEEKEND
This walking break will be based from the beautiful village of Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District National Park. This really is a lovely part of the country, with rolling hills and beautiful wooded valleys all around including Monsal Dale and Lathkill Dale nearby. The history of Bakewell stretches back to Saxon times when King Edward the Elder built a fort on a hill overlooking the River Wye; the Normans later built a motte and bailey castle on the site, the remains of which can still be seen. Bakewell is famous for its historic buildings, interesting shops, great pubs and, of course, Bakewell Puddings!
Accommodation ranges from self catering to B&Bs, pubs and hotels.
