Guided Mountain Walks Newlands Horseshoe, Lake District

With Mark Reid FRGS – author of ‘The Inn Way’ guidebooks & Mountain Leader

The Newlands Horseshoe is one of Lakeland’s finest walks taking in the 5 MOUNTAIN SUMMITS of Robinson (737m), Hindscarth (727m), Dale Head (753m), High Spy (653m) and Maiden Moor (576m) – with an experienced Mountain Leader.

Experience the thrill of the mountains, with spectacular views, dramatic landscapes and a real sense of achievement as you walk along the high-level broad ridges that encircle the stunning Newlands Valley, in the North-Western Lakeland Fells. The summit of Dale Head affords one of the finest views in the Lake District along the length of Newlands Valley.

The Newlands Horseshoe is physically demanding walk covering 10 miles (16-km) with 1,075m of ascent, which requires a good level of fitness. There are some sections of scrambling (rock steps) on the ascent of Robinson, which adds to the wild mountainous feel of this walk. It is a joy to walk along the top of the broad mountain ridges that link the five summits, with superlative views in all directions.
